Malayalam Unicode to ML-TT Converter
Paste Malayalam Unicode text and get ML-TT text you can copy straight into design and video apps.
Paste Unicode, copy ML-TT
- Copy your Malayalam text from wherever it is, such as a message, a document or a web page.
- Paste it into the input box above.
- The output box fills in at once. Click Copy ML-TT.
- Paste the result into your design or video app and apply an ML-TT font such as ML-TT Karthika.
For example, മലയാളം becomes aebmfw and കേരളം becomes tIcfw. Those letters mean nothing until an ML-TT font is applied to them.
What the converter does
Malayalam Unicode stores a vowel sign after its consonant, even when it is drawn to the left. Old ML-TT fonts expect the sign before the consonant, and they have a separate glyph for many conjuncts. The converter handles this per letter cluster: it reorders signs, picks conjunct glyphs where the encoding has one, and turns chillu letters such as ൻ and ർ into their ML-TT glyphs. English words, numbers, punctuation and line breaks pass through unchanged.
Other ways to enter text
- Manglish: type Malayalam in English letters (Mozhi scheme) and the Unicode appears as you go, with the ML-TT result alongside.
- Inscript: switch to Inscript to type with the standard layout, or use the on-screen keyboard.
- Copy Unicode: copies the input box exactly as it is, which is useful when you still need the Unicode version for the web or messaging.
Limits to know about
- This tool converts to ML-TT only. It does not convert ML-TT text back to Unicode.
- Some conjuncts have no glyph in the old ML-TT encoding. They show as two letters joined by a visible chandrakkala (്). Common examples are സ്ത and സ്പ. This is a limit of ML-TT itself.
- This site does not provide font downloads. You need an ML-TT font installed or imported in the app you are pasting into.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Malayalam Unicode to ML-TT?
Paste your Malayalam Unicode text into the input box. The ML-TT version appears in the output box straight away. Click Copy ML-TT to copy it.
Can I convert ML-TT back to Unicode?
Not with this tool. It converts Malayalam Unicode, or text typed in Manglish or Inscript, into ML-TT only.
What happens to English words, numbers and punctuation?
They are left as they are. Only Malayalam characters are converted.
Why do some conjuncts show a visible chandrakkala?
The old ML-TT encoding has no glyph for some conjuncts, such as സ്ത, so they come out as two letters joined by a visible chandrakkala (്). Check the result with your ML-TT font before final use.
Is the Unicode text I paste sent to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
